{"id":242,"date":"2021-05-13T20:25:01","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T20:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/?p=242"},"modified":"2021-05-17T19:59:55","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T19:59:55","slug":"crane-and-nmc-at-the-12th-icaane-virtual-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/?p=242","title":{"rendered":"CRANE at the 12th ICAANE Virtual Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Computational Research on the Ancient Near East (CRANE) Project was well represented at the <a href=\"https:\/\/eventi.unibo.it\/12icaane\">12th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East (ICAANE)<\/a>, held virtually April 6-9, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the keynote lectures was presented by CRANE collaborator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/s-p-harrison.aspx\">Sandy Harrison<\/a>, entitled <em>The Climate-Humans-Climate Nexus: Modelling the Impact of Climate on Agricultural Productivity and Agricultural Expansion on Global Climate<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CRANE supported a session entitled CRANE 2.0: <em>Large-Scale Data Analysis and the Reconstruction of Human-Environment Interaction in the Ancient Near East<\/em>, which included seven papers and was chaired by the Director of the CRANE Project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.utoronto.ca\/people\/directories\/all-faculty\/timothy-p-harrison\">Timothy Harrison<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The titles of the seven presented\npapers were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>CRANE 2.0: Large-Scale Data Analysis and the Reconstruction of Human-Environment Interaction in the Ancient Near East by Timothy Harrison. <\/li><li>Climate of the Ancient Near East from the Early Holocene (9000 kya) to the Middle Holocene (6000 kya) by Deepak Chandan and Richard Peltier.<\/li><li>Agent-Based Modelling of Human-Climate Interactions in the Ancient Near East by Lynn Welton. <\/li><li>Resolving Timescale and Multi-Year Human-Scale Climate Impacts in the East Mediterranean by Sturt Manning.<\/li><li>Isotopic Research as a Tool for Reconstructing Human-Environment Interaction in the Near East by Graham Philip, Lucie Johnson, Lynn Welton, Khaled El-Bashaireh, Abdulla Al-Shorman, Janet Montgomery, Geoff Nowell, and Darren Gr\u00f6cke.<\/li><li>Vegetation Reconstruction in the CLaSS (Climate, Landscape, Settlement and Society) Project by Katleen Deckers, Michelle De Gruchy, Simone Riehl, Valentina Tumolo, and Dan Lawrence.<\/li><li>Conceiving a new dimension of documentation: 3D data management at Karkemish by Jacopo Monastero.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CRANE was also represented by fourteen individually submitted papers, including one from NMC PhD candidate Dominique Langis-Barsetti, entitled <em>Teaching the Neo-Hittite world one block at a time: Minecraft as an educational tool in Archaeological Outreach<\/em>.
