{"id":249,"date":"2021-05-31T19:32:36","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T19:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/?p=249"},"modified":"2021-05-31T19:32:37","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T19:32:37","slug":"snela-2022-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/?p=249","title":{"rendered":"SNELA 2022 Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SNELA 2022 is now accepting\u00a0<strong>paper submissions via\u00a0its <a href=\"https:\/\/snela2022.wordpress.com\/submission\/\">website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third international meeting of the <strong>Society for Near Eastern<br>Landscape Archaeology (SNELA)<\/strong> will be held between <strong>March 2nd \u2013 4th,<br>2022<\/strong>, under the auspices of the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul<br>University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/SNELA-2022-1024x982.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-251\" width=\"497\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/SNELA-2022-1024x982.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/SNELA-2022-300x288.jpg 300w, https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/SNELA-2022-768x736.jpg 768w, https:\/\/insidecrane.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/SNELA-2022.jpg 1762w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme for\u00a0SNELA\u00a02022\u00a0is <strong>&#8220;The Archaeology and Anthropology of<br>Resource Use in the Near East.&#8221;<\/strong> The meeting aims to bring a<br>theoretical perspective for the resource use in a rich and broad<br>geography.<br><br>\u00a0The main themes of the\u00a02022\u00a0meetings are:<br><br>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Social approaches to the archaeology and anthropology of resource use,<br>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Types of resource use and long-distance trade,<br>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Ancient techniques and transfer of technology,<br>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Evaluating political economy and social complexity through resource use,<br>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The impacts of resource use on the paleo-environment.<br><br>Valuable\/semi-valuable stones, minerals, salt, bitumen, trees, and<br>other plants, water, and other natural resources that have been deemed<br>a vital part of human life for millennia will be discussed from an<br>interdisciplinary perspective regarding their social, political, and<br>economic aspects.<br><br>SNELA\u00a02022\u00a0has three invited speakers who are leading scholars in<br>their fields. Kristian Kristiansen, Aren Maeir, and Jan Gerrit Decksen<br>will bring a comprehensive perspective that extends from textual<br>evidence to theoretical frameworks, enrich the meeting with<br>round-table discussions.<br><br>We are inviting the scholars and researchers to submit their original<br>research, which may be presented in one of oral sessions or as a<br>poster. Abstract submissions will take place\u00a0<strong>between May 9, 2021<br>through June 15, 2021<\/strong>. The submission must conform to one of themes<br>and material groups along with the temporal extent of\u00a0SNELA\u00a02021 that<br>are mentioned under the About tab of the webpage. Interested scholars<br>are welcome to register here.<br><br>SNELA\u00a02022\u00a0is currently planned as in person attendance. It might<br>shift to a virtual conference depending on the situation with the<br>Covid-19 pandemic.
